Wide angle lenses
Wide angle lenses have a short range, so there is a lot of image to be seen on the photo or video. You are, more or less, squeezing reality in the frame so that it fits your angle of view. This is very convenient when filming or photographing outdoors, landscapes, for example on holiday in the mountains or in a nature reserve. A wide-angle zoom is a good successor to the 18-55mm or 16-50mm kit lens often included with an entry-level camera. Some standard zoom lenses, such as the widely used 24-70mm, have both wide-angle and slightly telephoto range. A 16-35mm or 17-40mm zoom lens, traditionally used by photojournalists and reportage photographers, is perfect for expansive landscapes and overview photos, useful for taking group photos, for example. Filming or photographing at somewhat longer distances, for example wildlife in nature, or sports such as alongside the soccer field where you cannot get close to your subject or when you see wildlife do not want to disturb, a telephoto zoom is the solution. Many professional photographers choose to upgrade their cheaper telephoto lens with a 70-200mm, which comes in both f/4 and f/2.8. These are not little boys adding a bunch of weight to your camera bag, but generally perform very well optically. Wildlife photographers or sports photographers often opt for a very large zoom range, such as a 150-600 mm or a 200-400 mm, although these lenses will have lower 'speed' (as in: maximum aperture). Alternatively you will have a very heavy lens to carry with you. View the rental offers of

telephoto lenses with fixed focal length.
Fixed focal length
Lenses that have one fixed focal length are called 'prime lenses'. Zooming in is not possible. Primes are usually very bright (large maximum aperture) and therefore very suitable for photos in low light or where you want a nicely blurred background. Primes with a focal length of 35mm and 50mm are very versatile and suitable for general use. For example for reportage and portrait photography. Specific 'portrait lenses' are also made for the latter category, these are usually 85mm or 100mm which give a pleasing character to the subjects you're photographing.
Super-telephoto lenses with a fixed focal length, for example a 300mm or 500mm, are more intended for sports and wildlife photography. One of the best-selling prime lenses is the 50mm with an aperture of f/1.8 or f/1.4. For many people this is the perfect upgrade after a
standard zoom lens.
Macro
With
macro lenses you capture the smallest subjects in a large and detailed way on your sensor. Small insects, such as a bee or a grasshopper, but also details of a flower or tree leaf come to life very impressively, rich in details. Because you are often very close to your subject in macro photography, macro lenses have a relatively short minimum focusing distance. This means focusing on a very short distance from your subject is no problem at all. Your subject is still large, because the magnification factor of the lens is adjusted to this.
Tilt-shift lenses
A separate category of lenses form the so-called tilt- shift lenses. Actually, the main purpose of this type of lenses is architecture photos. The reason is that you can correct the perspective in your image with
tilt shift lenses. You can adjust how the lens parts are positioned relative to the sensor of your camera and this ensures that the 'backward leaning' buildings in your image are a thing of the past. This saves time in the post-processing of your photos. Rent your

Rent fisheye lenses
A fisheye lens gives a special and striking distortion of your image, due to the extreme wide angle it has. The name already discloses its feature, it is based on how fish perceive reality, with a very large part of their environment in view. Ideal for photographing in small spaces or very wide landscapes and very suitable for somewhat more extreme images, for example in action photography or parties and events. See which
fisheye lenses you can rent.
Cine lenses
Different shooting conditions require different lens types. In the higher segment you can choose between a photography lens and a
cine lens. The name already says it: these are used by cinematographers, camera operators and DoPs (Director of Photography) for more professional film productions. In essence, there seem to be few differences with photo lenses, but appearances are deceiving. We explain the
main differences.
